Solange Releases New Album ‘When I Get Home;’ Listen Here

It’s been three long years since Solange unveiled her critically acclaimed A Seat At The Table. But she’s back now. Amidst rumors of a surprise release, yesterday the hitmaker hopped on social media to announce her fourth LP. She didn’t wait too long to roll it out, either. The album, titled When I Get Home, arrived today (March 1). Comprised of 19 tracks, it features contributions from the likes of Tyler, the Creator, Playboi Carti, The-Dream and more. Despite boasting such a lengthy tracklist, a slew of interludes (5 plus an “intermission”) keep the run time tightly trimmed to under 40 minutes.

According to a press release, it acts as “an exploration of origin” and “asks the question how much of ourselves do we bring with us versus leave behind in our evolution.” Not only did Solange executive produce, but she also wrote and composed on every song. That’s not all. She plans to commemorate the release with a mysterious special event scheduled to take place across Houston’s Third Ward Sunday (March 3). Learn more about that here. The 32-year-old offered some insight into the album during an interview with the New York Times’ style magazine T last year.

“There is a lot of jazz at the core,” she explained. “But with electronic and hip-hop drum and bass because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle.” She also opened up about some anxiety around the project coming out. “I have this fear living in my body about releasing work,” she said. “I don’t know any artist that doesn’t feel that before they hit the send button.” Listen to When I Get Home in full below!
