The Music World Reacts To Taylor Swift’s Blog Post
The music world has come alive since Taylor Swift published a blog post about Scooter Braun assuming ownership of her back catalogue. Today (June 30), news broke that the superstar manager purchased Big Machine Label Group. In doing so, he now owns masters of the “ME!” singer’s work from between 2006 and 2018. Swift opened up about the development and accused Braun and artists he manages of bullying on Tumblr. “This is my worst case scenario,” she said. “When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter.”
Since sharing her side of the story, there has been an influx of support for both sides. Iggy Azalea, Halsey and frequent collaborators Todrick Hall and Joseph Kahn have voiced support for Taylor. “Taylor Swift is a huge reason why I always insisted to write my own music,” Halsey revealed in a post on Twitter. “And it turns my guts that no matter how much power or success a woman has in this life, you are still susceptible to someone coming along and making you feel powerless out of spite.” It also appears that Miley Cyrus and Beyonce have unfollowed Braun on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Scooter has seen support from artists he manages including Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato. His wife, Yael Cohen Braun, also replied to several of the complaints lodged against her husband. Scott Borchetta, founder of Big Machine, replied with a lengthy public letter of his own. In it, he contested some of the claims from the blog post. “In regard to a post earlier today from Taylor, it’s time to set some things straight,” he wrote. That included the specifics of when Taylor learned about Braun purchasing Big Machine and the deal he proposed to her last year.
